It sounds pretty easy and straightforward in theory, but things get a lot more complicated once you manage to stay alive for a few days. More options become available to you later on, such as better weapons, or the ability to craft items from stuff you find lying around. It is actually mandatory to start building your own items, because the game stops supplying you with them after enough time has passed. Exploration is vital, thus, because it allows you to visit new places and search them for useful scraps that can be molded into something else.
