However, the actual gameplay mechanics are fairly difficult to get right, because there’s nothing more frustrating than a shooter with annoying controls, unbalanced mechanics or anything of the sort. Compete with other players for rank and better weapons BRAIN / OUT is a 2D shooter with basic mechanics and straightforward gameplay, in which the only goal is to kill everyone else and score as many frags as you can. The ultimate goal is to gain experience levels and ranks, which in turn allows you to get access to better weapons and various other items that come in handy when things get tough. To begin with, the game is fairly simple to set up, since you have the option to customize your loadout before each match. You can pick a primary weapon, a sidearm and a few extra items such as grenades. The weapons come with different stats as well, although most of them are capable of one shot kills if you aim is true, so it’s more about looks and prestige. Get loot crates and play on different maps Every now and again you can stumble upon loot crates that contain items, although these can also be bought using real money. It might take longer to get weapons by playing without paying, but the system is not very annoying, mostly because the weapons are powerful enough regardless of how rare they are. Hence, the pay-to-win problem is not that annoying in this case, especially if you play with people of your own level. As far as the graphics are concerned, you shouldn’t expect too much in this regard, given the fact that every map is small and simple when it comes to level design. The textures come in low-resolution as well, so the whole thing actually looks like some kind of Flash game from back in the day. This can be a good thing if you are feeling nostalgic, but it might also get annoying after a while. A fun experience for casual shooter fans All in all, BRAIN / OUT is not the type of game that keeps you engaged for months at a time, given the fact that it lacks content and depth. However , it’s quite fun to return to be able to it every now in addition to again for some speedy action.
